Much for bringing talent like Mr. Botti to
our area. I have never had front row

Botti twice before, last night was an
incredible experience from the front row. I
look forward to having the pleasure of

Roland,
I have a
complaint to make.
After seeing
Botti and crew last night all we can
think is that every other show will be
second rate.
Every
other performer and performance will
have to be compared to what was simple
the most impressive display of talent we
have ever witnessed.
Unbelievable.

Hi Roland,
BASIA was the best. What a great show. The
further see got into her
concert, the more I remembered. FYI, I sat
next to a gentleman who drove up
from Ft Lauderdale. H I could tell by his
conversation that he was an avid
BASIA fan. He new history, told me about
the twin backup singers prior to
them coming on stage. He was hoping that he
could go back stage and have a
picture taken with her. I'm not sure how
successful he was.
Again, fantastic should, I was thoroughly
entertained. And I had a great
seat.

I think I speak for MANY, when I say how
blessed we are in this area, to have you
to champion our love
for great music. I recently moved here
(OK over year ago) from Dallas TX and I
am always bragging (we do that a lot in
Texas) to my friends back there, that we
have better Jazz here, than they do,
DFW lost the jazz radio station,
followed promoters interest. My parents
passed away ( they had a great
life, no regrets) and left me this great
house here, and since I can't sell it
for even half it's value just 3 years
ago, I decided to go a head and leave
Dallas and move here. Your shows are one
of the highlights.
I am friends with Cameron Smith (whom
you may have met) from Dallas , and he
is even over whelmed,
by the talent we see here.
So THANKS, and if you ever need some
volunteer help, please let me know,
getting info out, whatever

Roland:
I really appreciate the nice 17th
Anniversary Letter you sent to your
friends! We all love you, too. You provide
a great service to the community.
You now, I still remember buying CDs from
you at your store shortly after I moved to
Melbourne back in 1989. I am not sure when
the store was first opened, but you were the
only CD store owner at the time that would
allow customers to listen to the music
before buying the CD. You were a pioneer
because it took stores like Virgin Records
and Tower Records years before they started
their "listening booths."
Through the years, you always helped me get
great seats at concerts and I always make
sure I say hello to you when I see you at
the King Center. Keep up the great work and
I will see you at the Basia concert this
Saturday.

Thank you
for your email, Roland. How nice of you
to take the time personally to solve
this problem. This is the same kind of
customer service I experienced from you
when I bought jazz CDs from your
store in Rockledge oh-so-many years ago!
Also, thanks
for getting Basia back on stage
locally. The last time I saw her was
when she was playing with Spyro Gyra at
the King Center (a GREAT show) and
really hadn't heard from her since, so
this benefit concert was a nice
surprise. All you need to do now is get
Sade to come to town!
Anyway, keep
up the good work as the leading
proponent of jazz in Brevard County.

RE: Brevard Jazz Series September Update
Letter!
Thanks for all
your efforts, Roland. I appreciate your
comments concerning Gated (ticketed)
concerts.
In the past I
have attended 4 or 5 concerts a year. But,
as you know, the economy has taken a major
dump. My wife has been forced into
retirement, and will most probably never
work again. My job is still secure, but
loss of her (not insubstantial) income has
forced us to make some drastic cuts in our
lifestyle. One of which is, unfortunately,
concerts.
The Smooth Jazz
Christmas is one exception. Peter White &
Dave Koz put on their best shows when they
are together on the stage. Peter without
Koz is good. Koz without Peter is also
good. But the 2 of them together is always
MAGIC !! Too bad Wayman Tisdale can't
be there with them. His bass looked like a
ukulele in his hands, and sounded like a
banjo. We miss him. RIP Wayman.
We'll see you at
Christmastime!,

and Daphne, Now that we all have had a little time
to sit back and catch our breaths, Janet and I would
like to express our appreciation for the wonderful
Rippingtons Valentine’s Day cruise. The concerts
were some of the best I’ve been to. The jazz club
atmosphere of being up front and personal was
fabulous. The only fault was that there wasn’t
enough time in the days to enjoy all that was
offered by BJS and RCL. I hope both of you have
recuperated from the many days of hard work it took
to provide us with this great experience. Looking
forward to our next concert and cruise. Thanks again
for everything. Sincerely, Janet and Martin

Subject: Smooth
Date: October 27, 2008I
agree with many of the points made in your
letter to R&R. You have done great work for
smooth jazz, as well as other musical forms.
And, you have developed a "territory." The
smooth jazz scene has been under all types of
pressure in recent years. One of the worst
things to happen is the attack on free
expression by the corporate consultants at the
radio station level. They have killed the hope
of vibrant radio programming by dumbing it down
with tight playlists and endless repetition
of overworked songs. From there, it all trickles
down in negative ways. It makes artists
desperate and it forces them to give themselves
away for the slightest assurance of some radio
play. As you know, jazz is a liberating music
and it can't operate well with a gun to its head
by the huge corporate consultants. Look at the
charts and the same names pop up, because those
are the politically connected, inner loop crowd
(L.A.) The format is in fact being hijacked by a
few well connected people. I feel the format
flips across the country are the result of
unimaginative programming which hurts the bottom
line and forces managers to go with a hot AC
mix.. If a station plays a wide variety of
contemporary sounding jazz music from the 70s to
the present, the listeners will plug in to it,
and the crowds will return to the after work and
weekend concerts. To blame sales people is a
fair indictment, because they are not usually
passionate about the music. They are hacks who
would sell out the format for twenty pieces of
silver, then lie about how bad they feel about
it. That's been a big problem for the past ten
years. The music is too controlled now, and
times are tight which doesn't help in the
slightest. You have been a great asset to smooth
jazz in central Florida. Jazz fans owe you a
great debt of gratitude. If things don't get
better soon, even you might get frustrated and
throw in the towel. We hope that doesn't happen.
I want promoters, artists, and radio program
directors to rediscover the joys of the smooth
jazz scene which dates back to the late 90s. I
only hope the good guys can take it all back
from the evil forces that have done a lot of
damage already. Best of luck.

Brevard Jazz Series
October-November '08 Update!
Date: October 27, 2008
Roland,
Thank you again for the tickets last night. I really
enjoyed the concert and had so much needed "fun"!
You gave me a couple of gifts...
1. The gift of music-I haven't really listened to
music in a while and forgot how it makes me feel and
how it makes me smile. I smiled a lot last night and
felt lifted.
2. The gift of seeing my sister smile. I did not
know that she had never been so close to the main
stage of an event before and loved watching her
excitement of it all. (And genuine appreciation)
3. While I never take for granted your generosity
Ginger reminded me of how special you treat me (and
others) and what really great seats you usually
provide.
So thank you for all the gifts. You really lifted my
spirit and I know that was your intention. It
worked!
Hugs, smiles, and more hugs! Thank you. Awesome
concert.

Subject: MAY 30TH CONCERT
Thank you for a most
enjoyable evening at the Space Coast Convention
Center on May 30th. I expected a wonderful concert
with Gerald Albright, but was most pleasantly
surprised by the intimate setting and the warm
reception of your staff. My daughter and I had a
wonderful time. This was our first visit to the
Brevard Jazz Series, but it will not be our last!
I also wanted to thank you for taking care of the
reservation for the Valentine day smooth jazz

thanks.

Roland,
I just wanted to say
thank you, thank you, thank you for your emails
that alerted me to the Guitars and Sax show last
Friday night. What a spectacular night that was!
I can only imagine all the hard work you put
into making this event such a success, and it
was! I live in Port St. Lucie and we have
limited venues available for shows of this
caliber.
My husband and I
have been booked for the Rippingtons cruise for
quite some time and are really looking forward
to it. We just last week booked the Smooth Jazz
Cruise for Feb. 2009 as well.
Thanks again for
bringing such entertainment to our area.
